About Us

Shouse Building Center is a family owned and operated business. The Shouse family has been involved in the building industry in Columbia and Maury County for nearly four decades. Arthur Shouse, the founder, was associated with Gobble  Lumber Co
beginning in 1959. He purchased the  company in 1968 and operated as Gobble Lumber Co. until 1975. In 1976 he opened Shouse Building Center on Highland Avenue and operated there until moving to the present location in August of 1998. Mr. Shouse "retired" in 1998 and turned the day to day management over to his family. Though he relinquished the reins of the company to his children, Michael and Lavenia purchased the company and now are the sole owners and operators of the company. This family truly grew up in the lumber business and is one of the few family operated building materials businesses in this area.
